RENTOBILE is a new service that allows you to rent cell phones a month at a time, for as long as you want, and then simply return them and get another phone. The huge upside is obviously you can get the latest and greatest phone and not have to go $300-500 in the hole to do so. AT&T, Sprint, T-Mobile and Verizon are all supported and there are even unlocked phones.
Here are some examples of cost:
AT&T:
iPhone 3G (16GB) is $34 a month.
Blackberry Bold is $24 a month.
Sprint:
HTC Touch Pro is $24 a month.
HTC Touch Diamond is $24 a month.
T-Mobile:
G1 is $24 a month.
Verizon:
Blackberry Storm is $30 a month.
If you must have the newest thing, this is the service for you. If you plan on keeping the phone, then you are probably better off doing a contract and getting the reduced price, because after a year of renting you could have bought most of the phones. The other issue could be data transfer from phone to phone as well. I think I'd get tired of that, but once figured out, I'm sure it wouldn't be that big of an issue.
Has anyone used this service yet? Thoughts????
